Discussion video from the homeless LGBTQ rally

by admin on Apr.14, 2009, under General

So here is the video of the discussion described earlier. Essentially it’s a discussion of weather the homeless LGBTQ should have their own shelters or if they should share shelters with the straight homeless. The problem is that often the LGBTQ will get beat up and abused because of ther sexual orientation, but is it possible to educate the straight homeless about the LGBTQ homeless and solve the problem that way?

The Rally at City Hall – the cause

by admin on Apr.09, 2009, under General

This video shows the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgendered, Questioning) homeless putting out pillows on the sidewalk to give a visual reference of where these youth will sleep in the future if the government cuts all funding for the shelters.

This is an interview with one of the hosts of the rally, Lucky Michaels is telling us why this cause is important to support.

Homeless LGBTQ rally at City Hall

by admin on Mar.31, 2009, under News, The culture

We went to the rally at the City Hall today. Serious stuff was going on, and the government wants to cut the funding for the homeless shelters for the transgendered, lesbien, gay, bi-sexual community, which means the homeless are going back out on the streets.
Check out the videos and the photos from the event, and hear Lucky Michaels talk about the cause!
The photos are on Flickr: Homeless rally at city hall

The first video is up on youtube now, the rest will be up very soon!

The 23 annual Night of a Thousand Gowns

by admin on Mar.23, 2009, under News, The culture

The Night of a Thousand gowns were held this saturday at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, New York.

We went there to cover the event and to promote the Documentary Lost in The Crowd, which covers the same topics as the Night of a Thousand Gowns support with the silent auction. Homeless Youth of New York.

It’s very good initiative to host a party to support these organizations, people have fun and at the same time help people who are less fortunate. The night was full of entertainment and some outrageous costumes which is always a hit at the Night of a Thousand Gowns.

You can check out photos on flickr right here:

Here is the movie from the first performance of the night. The National Anthem.

Parallel universe

by Susi on Mar.16, 2009, under General

There is this discussion: Is the movie about homeless youth or is it about transgendered youth? It’s about both. Before I made this movie I had little to no contact with transgendered youth. It just so happened that the youth I met on the street was mostly of the TG community and the organizations I worked with had access to this community. It was an eye opening experience on many levels and I met lots of people I wouldn’t otherwise have connected with. It seemed like a parallel universe. I stepped out of one existence, my comparatively humdrum regular existence into this unpredictable, dangerous world and it was not virtual like on Second Life although it felt like a second life to leave my secure circumstances and go to Hunts Point or the teen stroll (descriptive word for different territories frequented by sex workers) in Queens or some other forsaken area in the New York nightscape I didn’t know existed.
